God With Us
So, what does it mean that Christ is “Everlasting Father”? His title as “Everlasting Father” does not indicate that he is the same Person as the Father. The doctrine of the Trinity states that there is one God, three distinct Persons. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are God, but the Father is not the Son, the Son is not the Father, etc. The language here is one of establishment. Jesus is the founder of the everlasting. He is our hope of everlasting life.
What makes all of these titles especially meaningful is the fact that He is also Immanuel which means “God with us.” He is not merely God in eternity. He has come to us to redeem us. He took on flesh, lived a perfect life, imputed His righteousness to all the believing, took on the sin of all the believing, died to pay that sin debt, and rose from the dead to give us new life.
This is why we take the gospel to our homeless friends. Christ stepped into our lives to redeem us. So, we take the good news of Christ and the resources with which He has blessed us to the friends we care about so much. It is our Hope this Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace impact them through the power of His Holy Spirit and our example of His unconditional Love.
This Christmas, pray for our homeless friends. Pray that they would have a desire to be healed and restored to the life God desires for them. We want to see our friends safe and warm for the remaining years of your life, but it is far more important to us that they spend eternity with our Everlasting Father.
Merry Christmas,
