Three of our Friends
Last week was very tough for our friends and those of us that help this amazing population. I am unsure if the three characters here know each other, however they are known and loved by God and the people serving them.
I first met Miss P. in a camp they called 4 brothers. She was covered in tattoo’s and her eyes a piercing golden brown. I believe Miss P was in her early 30s and had several kids. I’m not sure how long she lived on the streets. She was sick then and she continued to be sick until the day she took her last breath. God took Miss P. from the woods briefly. When I saw her last month I recognized the tattoo’s, covering her neck, chest, arms and legs. Apparently she was in hospital for an extended period. She did not look like the same person, she had lost 30 lbs. at least and honestly I did not recognize her at first glance. She cried and we hugged, it was a good bye. She died last week.
Meeting Mr. S the first time was hysterical ! He came flying by on his bike, as we offered him a lunch and promised to meet him next week. He was were we agreed to meet and when he saw that we brought him chocolate cereal AND milk he danced in the street saying Thank You, Thank you, Thank you !! This young man 20 years old now in jail, charged in a murder investigation. Incredibly sad as well, he is a kid, yet got caught up in a world so much more destructive than one can imagine.
My hope for the third friend is that she take the help that is being offered to her. However, at 19 years old, giving up her first child to social services seems like the “right” thing to do. It will be scar on her heart forever. Homeless women must leave children behind. This adds to the spiral of soul sadness. Drugs, Alcohol, poverty, abuse, abandonment are all factors in the lives of every homeless person in America. Its about what has happened to them, so many stories of loss and suffering.
We are blessed to be able to help in any way God guides and directs.
